The Explorer Corporation

Whilst visiting the United States, to identify suitable potential hotel operators, Aaron came into contact with the vast US credit card industry. Aaron identified the opportunity to break the South African banks existing cartel and control of the South African credit card industry with the launch of Explorer. The Explorer Corporation was co-founded by Aaron Stanger through the Twin Towers Group as a specialist card and loyalty organisation. Explorer went on to be listed on the Venture Capital Board of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange on the 10th of February 1999.

During the same year Explorer launched South Africa's first bank - independent Visa credit card. Explorer remains a card and virtual financial services company specialising in visa credit and debit cards and value-added loyalty program's. Explorer remains one of the few survivors of the 1994 - 1999 listings boom and subsequent stock market realignment. The Explorer model has been subsequently followed in the South African market by the likes of Bluebean.com, eBucks and the ican online initiative of the M-Group of companies.
